The Amazon Kindle cover that comes with the electronic reading device is rather inadequate with some things that will annoy someone who’s just spent a several hundred dollars on a high-quality piece of electronics. The original Kindle cover had even more problems, but the latest incarnation, still leaves some things that the Kindle owner might find annoying.
The most common complaint with the cover that comes with the Kindle, is the way that it keeps the eBook reader in place. While it has two slots, which you can slip your eBook reader into, there is a tendency for it to slip out, and if you’re not careful, it could hit the floor. As we know with all electronics, this is not an ideal circumstance. Many workarounds involving Velcro in strategic places have been suggested to keep the Kindle in one place when a person is reading.
There have also been a number of very good aftermarket companies offering stylish, high-quality solutions to the Kindle cover quagmire. Three higher quality brands are Strangedog, Stylzworld and Noreveusa
Amazon also has a new cover coming out at the end of the November called the M-edge cover, which is much anticipated. There are 12 different models that are genuine leather in various colors and compatible with an e-Luminator book light. If you own a Kindle, you’ll immediately recognize how a book light that connects and doesn’t wobble is a good investment for your Electronic Reading Device. There are also non-leather “Leisure Jackets” that sell for less, but on the whole the M-edge is a luxurious addition to the Kindle cover arena.
Strangedog
Strangedog offers handmade covers that are both beautiful and custom. He only makes a couple in each style and each is very well crafted and durable. He offers the Velcro option to hold the Kindle in place, and will even take fabric from the customer in order to make a cover to spec. There is a waiting period as he only makes a limited number of these per week. Strangedog take pride in his hand made covers, and the level of craftsmanship is excellent. In this plug-n-play world, Strangedog is a one of a kind vendor who prides his work over mass production.
Stylzworld
Stylzworld offers a cover that is made of unique cognac brown leather with a sparkling design on the inside. It is genuine leather, tri-fold cover that has cutouts for credit, business and memory cards as well as other types of documents. It has an innovative holding system as well as a cutout in the back for the on/off buttons. You will have to contact them if you live in the United States as they are currently looking for distributors and are mainly located in Europe.
Noreveusa
A traditional leather case/cover is offered from Noreveusa and comes in 3 colors. It has a clasp that closes and holds the Kindle steady. It has the same problems presented with the original Kindle, although the clasp and leather make it a nice Kindle cover to consider.
Amazon offers a few different cases that will protect your Kindle if a cover isn’t what you’re looking for. These other options include a Neoprene Sleeve Case with a screen protector, a travel package that includes a leather case and travel book light, and a black neoprene case that’s good for travel. However according to the word in the Kindle forum, it appears that most people are waiting on the M-edge genuine leather executive case as the best buy in Kindle covers for Christmas. The Amazon Kindle is not only the hottest ebook reader on the market today but next to the iPhone its one of the most popular electronic gadgets. At the time of this writing it has been out of stock for weeks and those that have placed orders for the Kindle will be waiting for several more weeks to get it!While the Kindle is certainly the market leader for the ebook reader market, Apple is fast on its heels with the iPhone. From listening to music or watching your favorite movies to playing games, you can do it with the iPhone so why not read books on the device as well? That’s what Apple seems to think anyway and as a result is quickly trying to give the Kindle a run for its money as an ebook reader.Recently, it was announced that several major publishers have signed deals with ScrollMotion, a New York mobile application developer. ScrollMotion is a new app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that will allow consumers to buy and read electronic versions of newly released and best-selling books. This latest iPhone app puts Apple directly in the ebook business in a big way.Despite Apple’s ambitions, there are two main differences that should favor the Kindle (at least for now) as strictly an ebook reader. The first obvious difference is the size of the display. Try reading a chapter of your favorite book on a 3.5 inch display, the size of the display on the iPhone, and you’ll likely go crazy. Contrast that to the Kindle’s six inch diagonal display and there’s no comparison in reading comfort. The other main difference between these devices is the technology that is used in the displays themselves. The Kindle uses e-Ink technology to display text while the iPhone works much like a computer monitor where light is emitted to display text. The difference in these technologies is dramatic. When you read text on the Kindle, it looks just like text on paper and there is virtually no eye strain, even after long reading sessions. With the iPhone, reading text is much like reading from your computer monitor (on a much smaller scale) and will almost certainly strain your eyes. When you compare these devices side-by-side as strictly ebook readers, the larger display and display technology easily favors the Amazon Kindle. There are two things in Apple’s favor, however, that could trump the Kindle’s success. The first being iPhone’s availability and price, and the second being the convenience of being able to do everything with one small device. The iPhone is readily available and is cheaper than the Kindle. As for screen size and potential eye strain, consumers may be willing to make these sacrifices if it means they can use one device for everything. The ideal gadget would have the features of the iPhone and the Kindle, but that’s never going to happen anytime soon. I believe in the end dedicated ebook readers like the Kindle will always have a leg up on smaller communication and entertainment devices like the iPhone. That doesn’t mean Apple is out of the game. Who knows, could the Apple “iReader” be right around the corner? When comparing the Kindle vs. iPhone as an ebook reader, it’s important that you determine exactly what your needs are in a reading device. It’s also important you know what the Kindle can and cannot do. For that, read the full Amazon Kindle review here. make perfume at home

Amazon has outdone itself again. Just within days of launching the Kindle 2, Amazon also released its new Kindle iPhone app and sent iPhone users scrambling to download the free app and trying it out. The verdict? iPhone owners have been impressed enough that many of them have jumped on the Kindle bandwagon and have purchased one themselves. How exactly does this Kindle iPhone app work? For starters, it’s like having an extension of your Kindle with you wherever you go. If you’re one of those who think that reading the Kindle even while waiting in lines or taking subway rides is a bit overdoing it, then the iPhone app is the answer to your reading dilemma. Take the iPhone with you anywhere and take advantage of short bursts of reading your Kindle books whenever you have some free time.Applicable for both the iPhone and iPod touch, the Kindle for iPhone app has even taken the effort to make reading from the iPhone a pleasant experience. Given that the iPhone is a compact device, the readability is still great with 5 font sizes to choose from. Plus, going through pages is easily done with just a mere swipe of the screen right to left, or back. For bookmarking pages, finding the table of contents, going to the beginning or a specific location, and looking at the image cover, a couple of taps is all it takes as well.Accessing all your Kindle books even without the Kindle around is also possible with the Kindle iPhone app. Just log-in to your Amazon account and download any of your books stored there straight to your iPhone. Even better, you can continue to read right where you left off from either device, thanks to Kindle’s Whispersync technology. Make sure to sync your Amazon Kindle or iPhone before leaving and either one of them will automatically go to the last page read when you resume reading. Another great thing about the Kindle iPhone app is that it gives the reader a full-color version of the images from its LCD screen, as opposed to the Kindle’s shades of gray. What it cannot do however, is permanently replace the Kindle as the choice reading device. While the iPhone acts as a perfect foil to the Kindle, the latter’s e-paper technology, wide screen, and superior readability is still the best device for hours of nonstop reading. However exciting the new Kindle for iPhone may be, it still has a few downsides. First, buying books from Amazon or even just browsing available titles directly through the app is not yet possible. Moreover, the Kindle iPhone app is currently exclusive for ebooks and not for newspapers and magazines as yet. And one more thing, the dictionary feature is not available yet on the Kindle for iPhone app. These are minor drawbacks though, and with the way things are going with the Kindle, these features are surely not far off. Continue Reading »Electronic books, also called ebooks, are quickly taking off. Special devices dedicated to reading these ebooks, called ebook readers, have contributed to this newfound popularity with their powerful feature sets. At the forefront of this ebook revolution is Amazon’s Kindle 2. The second-generation of Amazon’s game-changing gadget, the Kindle 2 has a variety of features that people are getting excited about.
Ever stare at your computer screen and get a headache? So did people who used to read ebooks…but Amazon’s Kindle 2 has changed all that. The Kindle 2 uses a new “e-ink” technology that doesn’t have any glare, so you can read it in direct sunlight or in a dim room without hurting your eyes. The Kindle 2 also features crisp, clear images on a large display that rivals some print in paper books! Plus, with Kindle 2 you can even adjust the font size to your liking.
Another one of the advantages of ebooks is the ability to look up words on the spot. Amazon’s Kindle 2 is a walking dictionary, letting you look things up on the web as you read. The Kindle 2 is completely wireless and connects you to 3G networks automatically, which means you can look things up from anywhere. No monthly plan is required; you can read and shop right out of the box.
Online shopping is another advantage that ebooks have over the library. You can download new titles to your electronic reader without ever going to a book store. Amazon’s Kindle 2 is the leader in this department, as it gives you access to all the books in Amazon.com, the largest digital library on the planet. Plus the Kindle 2 boasts the ability to store up to 1,500 books. That’s an entire library in the palm of your hand! No more need to take a stack of books on those long business trips, just one little device.
And that is where Amazon’s Kindle 2 really shines – it’s as thin as a magazine at 1/3 inch thick, and weighs less than a paperback book at 10.2 ounces. It’s slim and discreet profile let you carry it anywhere, and you can charge it from your computer via a USB cord. Plus the Kindle 2 also offers a text-to-speech feature that can read your newspapers and books out loud to you, if you so choose.
5 Things CNN Money Loves About The Kindle 2
It’s really good at what it’s designed for: Reading books that are mostly text. Its e-ink screen technology makes reading a book almost as effortless as reading a book that’s printed on paper. The slimmer new Kindle 2 design makes it easier to hold, carry, and turn pages. And the long battery life means you don’t have to worry about getting lost in a text without a charging cable.
It’s discreet! No one will ever know that you’re reading The Da Vinci Code, The Tipping Point, Infinite Jest, DOS For Dummies, or anything by Danielle Steele.
Kindle-optimized Web sites are on the way. Instapaper, which lets you save magazine articles, news stories, and blog posts to “read later” is one of our favorite Web sites and iPhone apps. Now founder Marco Arment is working on a version that’s tuned to the Kindle’s browser.
It’s super for traveling, with a few caveats. When I spent three months backpacking in Europe several summers ago, I brought too many books: A few thick editions of Lonely Planet and Let’s Go, a Rick Steves, novels for 8-hour train rides, Eurail timetable, and more. A Kindle 2 would swallow all of those into a much smaller, lighter package, plus it would be searchable. But: The Sprint (S) wireless features will not work outside the U.S., so make sure you get everything before you get on the plane. And while black-and-white maps are passable on the Kindle, color illustrations — e.g., subway maps — are often useless.
New books are cheaper on the Kindle than on paper. Makes up for the $360 you have to drop to get a Kindle in the first place. Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, for instance, costs $17 in hardcover at Amazon, but is $10 for the Kindle. The Host is $5 cheaper on the Kindle, too.
With all of these options, it’s clear to see why Amazon’s Kindle 2 is leading the way in the world of ebooks. Just like Apple’s ipod changed the way we interact with music, the Kindle 2 is revolutionizing the book world, offering easy-to-use hand-held personal digital libraries. Modern technology has finally caught up the printing press.
